All you do is set it to how many cups of coffee you want to grind, and set it to how fine or course you want the beans to be ground, add the beans and hold down on the lid to start grinding. It shuts off automatically when the beans are ground according to your settings. It also has a neat little chart printed on the side telling you how many tbs of coffee beans to put in depending on how many cups you want to grind, so you don't have to remember how much to use everytime, just look at the chart. I am very happy with the product and highly reccomend it to everyone.
I bought this after reading the reviews. If I had to change anyting about it, I would put a longer cord on it, and offer more grind selections. Meaning there is only fine, medium and coarse. I had a Hamilton Beach, bought at Targer and do like this one better.
power cord is wound up inside the bottom of the unit, with just about 1 ft. I've had this unit since Christmas-time and wanted to put it thru it's normal paces before submitting any type of review. So, you'll always get a really consistent & precise grind each time. Most of the other units don't have this feature. And one final note to mention is that the 3 ft. of cups you want to brew and then set the grind to either "fine" for Espresso, "Med." for virtually all of the most common, popular drip style coffee makers, or "coarse" if you happen to have a percolator type model coffee maker.that easy. Here's why the IDS77 is so good: 1) your grind is always consistent each time, as you simply press the buttons for the amt.
After you've set that, simply press and hold the grind button on the top and when it stops - Bada-Bing. you're done. After doing my usual diligence and research, I decided on this unit and I'm absolutely pleased with my choice. 2) The "chambermaid" feature does an outstanding job at helping to wipe about 99% of the ground coffee out of the chamber, normally just leaving a fine dusting of coffee in the chamber cup - far better than other grinders I have used that would leave about 1/16"-1/8" of compacted ground coffee on the bottom of the grinding cup. 3) Both the grinding chamber cup and the top twist off easily from the unit, so you can both fill it and empty it out with a few taps and twists into your coffee maker - all away from the grinding base; which is a really nice, convenient feature, that also allows for easy periodic sink cleaning. The unit is also somewhat quieter than most other units when grinding. PS - you can always try this unit out before buying it, as WMT & TGT both carry it in their stores for about the same price. I think you'll be very happy with this unit; especially at this price point.
This until does it all, does it very well and all at a price that is among the lowest out there for any coffee grinder - certainly less than some of the other real crap models I've looked at and far less than any of the high-end brands at triple the price. extended when you first take it out of the box. And you really can't screw the process up too bad, unless you're a complete dumba$$ or decide for some reason to start/stop/restart the grinding process. But why would you do that, when this unit makes it so shamelessly easy. So, simply unwind what you need to reach the electrical outlet and you can always wind it back up inside the unit when you're done. Just save your receipt and return the one you get from AMZN back to the store ; ).
I would like to give a more complete review of this grinder but I can't because it only lasted for two grinds. If Mr. I guess for the money it could have been a good little grinder but considering how long it lasted I don't think I would waste my money on another one.
The coffee was ground according to the settings I used and the unit was very easy to use and to clean afterwards. In my case that would have meant a 45 minute drive. From these two grinds I can tell you that it performed as advertised.
Oh, yes, and to resolve the issue you cannot just contact customer service to send it back for repair/replacement like you can do with almost any other on-line vendor, you have to locate a local repair center and make arrangements with them for repairs which usually means taking it in to them. However, it seems to me that the thermal breaker they are using is much too sensitive to heat. When this unit stopped working on just the second grind there was no discernable heat from the unit and the beans did not bind the blades.
The cost of gas alone makes that a ridiculous solution. Coffee really wants to be helpful regarding this low quality item they could at least modernize their return process so that you can just send it back to them or their service center directly and not have to go through a "local" repair center.
Plain and simple, product broke after the third time of usage. I followed instructions carefully and still it broke. Major disappointment.
